Who Has All Male

It can work out, but I don't even have all males that chase each other sometimes. No real fin nipping goes on that I can see, but it's really a touch and go thing.

I had four males in a small 6g hex. They were fine for a while, but when one died all hell broke loose, lots of nipping and fighting... Now I am shuffling them around between two tanks until their new one is cycled.

Having said that, I think it would work as long as the tank was big enough and as long as you had an odd number, 7+. Three is the worst - they form into a 2 and a 1 and the 1 gets picked on, this is fairly common behaviour apparently. And I would definitely fill the tank with plants and include some hiding places so that they aren't always in each others' faces.

i have had an all male tanks a few times, numbers varying from 2 to over 10, never had any but they were from the same spawn

i have eight male venezuelans in an AR 380 (8 gall), and they are fine.....there was originally four, and they nipped a bit, but with eight there is no problems so far.

Do you need females to even out the aggression between males? or does that have no baring on whether or not they'll fight?

I'm getting some fancy guppies at the end of the week and was unsure whether or not to mix sexes or keep them separate. I'll have a group of 6 males and approx 12 females.

If you mix sexes, prepare to deal with a lot of fry. While mixing sexing doesn't guarantee a zero aggression of males, it does distract them.

most say that if you have more than 5 males then there is enough to keep aggression to a minimum

Thanks for the info, i should be fine with 6 males then, i was planning on keeping males and females separate so i could breed more selectively and control the numbers.

I'll be getting some pure fancy guppies and i know many people interested in the offspring already!

i have 2 male guppies at the moment and they are doing fine together, but im still getting rid to make way for new species

Ive had 2 males from day 1, never a single problem, lovely fish :)

I have heard that male pairs do "bond" in the absence of females, certainly when I had 2 on their own they were fine. 3 is the (bad) magic number I guess.

I have about 6 male guppies at the moment with no agression issues among them. One is a fancy guppy and the others are wild type or hybrids. But I've had two fancy's together with no problem.

They spend most of their time chasing one of the two large females around in gangs or by themselves. The rest of the time they are foraging for food.

(The only time I had a problem with this tank was for a brief period when my boyfriend convinced me that I could put my betta in with the guppies after seeing at the petshop. BAD IDEA! Poor guppy just about lost his tail. He lived through it and it almost grew back completely before he died of natural causes)
