Bought this fish a week or 2 ago, when i bought it the fish was pretty small and looked yellow with a bit of black on the dorsal fin, so i though it was a yellow lab, now it looks orange and has little black dots on its body and dorsal, and when the tank is not lit you can see a dark bar running along its body.

thanks

really hard to tell mate tbh....

i had the same thing a few months back, went to a tank labeled 'saulosi' and picked out a female...

got it home and it just did not fit right... looks identical to the one you have there....

check out what colouration it has in the middle of the night after its been asleep as any barring or stripes will show through...

this will help determine if its a johanni, interuptus, saulosi, msobo or somethnig else, all of which have females who are yellow..

sorry i can not help anymore at this stage, but please do try the tip :good:

This was my mystery fish, kinda looks the same and also on your's there is some blue under the skin like there was on mine..

thats just it - no one could posatively id....

it was not a pure fish of saulosi, johanii, msobo or interuptus....

as i am now breeding fish in my tank i could not afford to take a risk of hybridisation or further hybribisation therefore it became a causualty of war

Bummer... mine are all still babies and i dont have a pair of any kind yet so i will just give it a few months see what it develops in to.... hoping it will turn to a female saulosi and the other a male saulosi

well i wish you luck mate, but i don't think that just luck on it's own is gonna change the head shape, its definately not a saulosi, but we can but live in the world of hope for ya......

..again, you bought thinknig it was a yellow lab, what was it actually labelled up as - or was it from the dreaded ' mixed malawi' tank ?

Yea it was from the mixed malawi tank.. which i also got a Nimbochromis polystigma out of lol

I think you're right there aa, body shape and in particular head shape matches tropheops perfectly. Could be an Aurora or Yellow-chin. :good:

you need a profile shot mate to help on the id i reckon, from that angle its's harther it could be a tropheus or not :D
