Hi

Im new to the hobby also

Just a little note to say dont panic :good:

I got ich (white spot) also in my tank in the 3rd week of the hobby

I treated the tank every 48 hours (as per instructions)

I raised the temp to 30 c

Had and still do have

3 x clown loach
1 x Betta Fish
I x dwarf plec
12 x neon tetra

Provided you dont raise the temp too quickly..say 1 degree c every hour or so they really should be fine :good:

I treated my tank to the full suggested dose (even tho instructions said halve the ammount for scaleless fish)
My Lfs is very good and i trusted their oppinion (obviously all meds are different and you should really follow instructions)

Just make sure your filter is creating enough surface splash in order to put more oxygen in your tank (as oxygen levels in water decrease the higher the temp goes)

I personally fitted an extra air pump (not sure if that is too important just as long as your filter pump is up to the job)

Ensure you read up on the cycles of ich (3 stages) and medicate (without carbon) 48 hours (at least) after the last white spot has gone

Make sure you have no carbon in your filter as it will remove the medication

Oh.....and VERY IMPORTANT...Just to remind you again...Keep medicating at least 48 hours after last spot has gone or you risk total reinfection

Good luck and if you have any problems just ask

Mike

im really gutted that im going to have to remove the carbon from my filters, ive just put carbon into my canister filter, and it took me about 2 hours to get the ### thing ticking over again!!

i have started the treatment without taking out the carbon so it looks like that was a failure.?

its such a pain.
do you have to keep the lights out also?

cheers

Carbon shouldnt be in filter really as it removes the med (unsure how long it takes)

I would say do a 40% water change with treated water. (ensure temp is roughly the same as tank)

I would then proceed to administer maybe another half dose of the the suggested med

I would then wait 48 hours and continue to medicate the tank at the full dose

PLEASE NOTE

This largely would depend on how long the med has been in the tank with carbon

Im no expert and would really seek confirmation from a more experienced member though before taking my advise 100%
(Thats what i would do tho)

And I dont believe the lighting in your tank has any effect whatsoever on ich or the med so its up to you

so is this suggesting a way to get around not removing my carbon??

Lol,,Just to clarify

Carbon must be removed from your filter for the medication to work as carbon WILL remove the med from the water :good:
