notcied today there is a thin coat of whiteish clear algae ((makes our tank look like its dusty on the inside but the water is clear)) we can see it moving in the water flow, its not thick by any means, very thin layer, but all our fish JUST started eating it off the sides like a few min ago.

what is this??

is it safe??

Hi..i'm presuming your tank was cycled and if not matre, then on it's way to being so... i, too, suffer with this particular algae, it only grows on the glass opposite the flow of my filter output and gets alot thicker in the days running upto my weekly water change.I can only presume it is living off the increased NitrAte levels that build up through the week.I find the best fish to use to clear it is the old "roll up sleeves and elbow grease" fish ( ;) ).. i don't find it does any harm.

Terry,

So I'm not the only one having this peculiar thing in my tank. O.O
My fish love to eat it too. But I don't see it moving. It just sticks to certain areas of the tank (oddly not in the center of it but all over walls and filter).
My swordtails peck that thing all day long, especially the female. Sometimes the catfish.
Tank cycling state is unknown, but most likely still uncycled as it was started 3 weeks ago and I don't know how well the bacteria handled not having dechlorinator yet.

And lately the white thing started to just disappear. It now looks as if it's raining off the walls. Will probably be gone soon.
