Hi

If i was to get a light with an output color of WHITE WHITE WHITE, do i jus look at the Kelvin rating?........

my question, in other words is, Is the Kelvin rating (color temp) of a light the ONLY factor that determines how white a light looks?

i am buying online two energy saver bulbs that have a color temp of 6500K. but it doesnt say wot the lumen thing is for these bulbs. I hope they are WHITE light. not the warm white sort.

The Kelvin rating is more of an average of the light emitted by the phosphors in the lamp. How accurate a lamp renders colour is more correctly stated by it's CRI value, (Colour Rendition Index where CRI = 100 is perfect CRI = low, is bad).

Lumens is a weird unit because it takes into account the fact that our eyes don't see all colours with the same intensity. A lamp can have a quite low lumens value but be better for plants then a different lamp of the same wattage with a higher lumens rating.

A lamp with a rating of 6500K should not appear warm, that is, however, a generalisation.

oh no.
That jus confused me more...haha... well, not really confuse but made me think twice about buying those bulbs.

i want WHITE WHITE light. and all i know about the bulb is that its 6500Ks.
I shud email the company about its CRI to find out whether its white or warm white rite??

what kind of bulb is it ? brand ? usually searching aroudn the net, you would be able to find its CRI value :D 6500K is white for me :D

it doesnt say the brand....i dont think it would be a reputable brand....Im only searching for it online cos i cant find it anywhere here in Poznan. I cant even order them, even if i could its waay too expensive.

heres a link to the bulb....does anyone know this company? used it? i wouldnt think so tho.

bulb

>>> dont think it would be a reputable brand

I think you're right. A decent mail order firm with quality products generally states the manufacturer. These look like "no name" cheap lamps. Personally, I'd avoid them, but obviously, I don't know your situation.

Fact of life is that cheap gear is usually poor quality. Cheap fluorescent lamps generally don't last very long, and have very poor spectral characteristics.

oh no
that jus totally put me off those bulbs.

Lateral Line. Is there a site u would recommend where i could find bulbs of well known brands? Denmark is in Europe so maybe u can help me find one thats based in europe... I REALLY need 6500K bulbs...my plants are thriving at the moment but Im sure they could do ALOT better with 6500Ks.

please, ppl, help me find one?

ps, what do u mean by "very poor spectral characteristics"??
