I received two GBRs about a week ago. Unfortunately, my isolation tank is currently occupied by an angelfish with an illness, so no isolation occurred. The seller is reputable and generally has no problem with illness or parasites. However, two days ago, I noticed white (bright white) spots on their fins. It looked like something someone else had posted about. Until this morning. Now, one of them has an an additional one, it's white, threadlike and attached very close to the body. She's swimming with her fins fairly clamped. These are not anchor worms. They are not round worms. They do look like worms in my opinion; but, I can't identify them. None of my other fish are currently affected. The tank is heavily planted and has been long before the GBRs arrived on the scene. [edit]My husband just said that they look like nits, but one of them has a threadlike "tail".[/edit]

levels:
0 NO2
0 NO3
0 Ammonia
7.0 PH
140ppm KH
180ppm GH

These guys are tiny. Getting them out of this tank without completely uprooting the tank isn't going to work...they have way too many places to hide. If these are, indeed, worms - I'd rather treat the whole tank anyway, just to kill off any possible spreading that might be in the very early stages. I'm also starting to fear that I'm going to have to uproot the entire tank anyway because of the potential harm to the plants from any meds I'll need to use.

I don't have a camera, so I can't take photos - and, I haven't been able to find a photo that is along the lines of what I'm seeing. I hope my description is good enough to get some assistance.

Thanks!

Are they some sort of fish lice, by any chance?

You know, I've been wondering that. If it weren't for the fact that two of them has what looks like a threadlike 'tail', I'd be totally onboard with the lice thing. But, this one looks like ((I'm not trying to be crude, here, but it's the closest description I have on hand))a little sperm attached on the tail fin.

I've never hated not having a camera until right now. argh.

[edit]These are bright white, not dark. They are stationary and attached, not moving. The fish are not appearing bothered in the least, with the exception of the slightly clamped fins on one of the two. No rubbing, no scratching, no erratic behavior at all.[/edit]

Well, since I can't figure it out, I decided to try a general parasitic. I'm using Prazipro and hoping it will take care of the issue.

If external, malachite green dip should work well. Or potassium permanganate.
cheers

Ok. When I'm done with this treatment, if it hasn't resolved the issue, I'll give one of them a go. Thanks.
