I have some driftwood in my aquarium, and it seems to have developed a weird white frosting over it. It seems to be pretty much stuck to it, and cannot be scraped off very easily. What can it be, and how can i take it off? I guess if i apply enough elbow grease to it it will rub off, but what is it really? some specie of algea? I recently added some fertilizer so that might be a factor. It has covered the whole area of the wood, so it looks white. If i can get my camera to work, i will post a pic.

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't sound like any form of algae to me, could be some kind of fungus? Do you live in a hard water area? if so it culd be some type of limescale stuff??

I had the same problem a while ago, just take the wood out plonk it in some boiling water with a load of salt (table salt will do) in it leave for a day then rinse it like your life depended on it and place back in the tank. Worked for me and has never come back :good:

not that Griz, its not that... im going to try to boil it and mabye put some elbow grease on it and it should come off.
