My girlfriend just called me to say she can see white spots on the neons i bought last week from the local aqaurium. I didnt notice anything of them last night when i was watching them and have not seen these white spots myself, i will do in an hour when i nip home at lunch.

I realise there are numerous possibly causes of this but does anyone have any tips for me?

thanks

I used Interpet No6 treatment, upped the temperature in the tank to 28 (depending on fish and only by half a degree evry 12 hours) and did 3 full treatments. One treatment is 2 doses, dose one on day one (ie, today) and dose 2 on day 4 (Thursday). Left it a couple of days, then repeated, then left a couple of days and repeated again. I left the lights in the tank off as this helps apparently(i have no real plants) and added some aquarum salt. The problem with white spot is, while its on the fish, you cant do anything, its when it come off the fish and is free swimming about and getting in your substrate ect and infecting other fish. This is when its easier to treat, at this stage. That is why you up the temperature, to speed the life cycle of the parasite up and get it to its free swimming stage. Remove any carbon media from your filter before treating too and dont worry about the water in the tank going blue, it goes after an hour or so. Dont add any more fish untill your sure it has gone and do a 30% water change between each treatment. When you have completed the treatments, put carbon media back. There are some nasty starins of white spot out there so keep a close eye on them. I hope that has helped, it isnt as hard work as it sounds and mine has completely cleared up. The aquarium salts are an excellent tonic for the fish to. Grj.

Ive seen the fish myself and they have white spot. Some of my others seem to have it now but the tetras more so which leaves me to conclude they had it when i bought them.

Bought the white spot treatment and ill be doing a water change tonight when i get in

figners crossed they should be ok

Should i expect any deaths?

If they had it when you bought them why did you buy them. If the fish dosen't look 100% healthy in the shop then don't even consider buying them.

I mean that they must have had it. They looked healthy in the shop but must have not been showing

I had no deaths with mine, but i suppose it depends on the condition of the fish.. I think it 'irks' them moretahn anything, they bash themselves onto things and swim very erraticly, but if you treat it asap you are giving them the best shot they have. GRJ

i would recommend interpet number 6 (liquisil general tonic)when adding new fish to an established aquarium even as just a precautionary measure

The white spot treatment is Interpet No6, Liquisil is No5, just so there is no confusion. Just thought i would point that out. GRJ :good:

salt and heat treatment is what i would do, i hate messing around with medicines.

they seem ok

They are swimming fine and seem quite happy. Hopefully we spotted it early enough. I have bought the medicine and rasied the temp in the tank. Fingers crossed
