Hi I've got red head little fish in my 90 liter tank. I saw that some of my fish got kind of white dots on their tales and on their fins. What to do?

Does it look like tfish have been sprinkled with salt? If they do, they have whitespot, also known as ich.

The first thing to do is increase the temperature slowly to 30 deg C (85 F). While it is warming, go and buy a whitespot medication, there are several on the market. You must add the med exactly as it says, don't stop when the spots disappear. Whitespot is caused by a parasite that has three stages in its lifecycle. The first is where it is attached to the fish, it has a coating over it which we see as the spots but the coating protects the parasite against the med. Then the parasite falls off the fish and falls to the bottom of the tank as a kind of cyst. Again, the med can't get at it. Finally, the cyst splits open and free swimming parasites go looking for a fish to infect - this is the only stage where the parasite can be killed so there must be some med in the water when every last cyst splits open. Increasing the temperature speeds up the cycle so you get to the end faster.

If you have scaleless fish in the tank (eg loaches) you may need to reduce the dose. Read the instructions. And if you have any snails or shimps the med will probably kill them, so take them out of the tank first. If necessary just keep them in a lidded box and change the water daily. Make sure you run fresh carbon in the tank for a few days after treatment has finished, escpecially if you have shimps and snails as the med must be completely removed before they can go back in.

As essjay said, your fish have whitespot by the sounds of it. Most fish stores sell ich/whitespot medication.

Do I need to keep raised water temperature for whole time of treatment or just for a while and how for how long do I need to give them this white spot medicine.

You should use the medication exactly how it says on the bottle. With some you dose every day for a certain number of days, others you dose every other day, some you dose on something like days 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7. Do whatever the brand you have says to do.

Keep the temp raised for the duration of the treatment, whatever that is, then I usually wait a couple of days more before turning the heater back down.

Keep an eye on your fish for several days after the treatment has ended. I once had a nasty variety of whitespot that took three courses of treatment to get rid of it. Keeping an eye on the fish means if you are unfrotunate enough to have a variey like this, you'll spot it straight away.

i have the same problem i will buy some white spot treatment in the morning what is better API LIQUID AQUARIUM FISH TANK WHITE SPOT CURE or Interpet anti Whitespot i have seen both these on the net or if there is a better one to buy i have 3 LFS and a pets at home all close to me where i can buy it

Any whitespot medication will do the job. I would buy from a shop rather than on-line for this as you'll get it quicker. If your fish have whitespot, the sooner you start treatment the better.
