Hi Guys and Girls,
i have noticed that 2 of my fish have some strange what looks like dots on there front fins and i just got a bit curious and thought maybe they have picked up a disease or something. I have just changed my tank over for an even larger tank and external filter but now i'm kinda worried having looked up white spot it says it affects the whole fish so if i have picked up on something then i'm guessing its in the early stages of it.
I've tried to link a picture but it appears the file is too large the location of the spots seems prety uniform on both fish but my other 2 don't seem at all affected.
Also the fishes behaviour doesn't seem at all different than usual except my chocolate oranda was caught last few days having a nap in some plants which is a bit weird but i just put it down to fish gotta nap too?
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Munky

turns out this is just male fancies lol may have some fancy fry up for good homes soon depending lol :D

Post the picture on photobucket and provide the link. There will be no file size limit to post your pic.

There are a few things that can appear as white dots on a fish. Ich, fungus, and fin rot can all have white spots on a fish. I think Ich normally is on the scales, rather than fins but not really sure.

How long has your tank been set up? Do you have a liquid test kit to test water samples for toxins? Most diseases are brought on by problems with your water. If you don't have a test kit, I would recommend picking up the API master kit for $20-$30 and determine water quality before jumping to meds.

Pretty much all diseases are progressive and action should be taken quickly. Sometimes disease (mild cases) can be fixed with improving water quality or adding freshwater salt. Other times antibiotics are needed. It's important to determine the disease and the cause prior to treatment.

I was going to suggest breeding tubercles.

If the spots are only on the front of the pectoral fins and the gill covers, the fish are otherwise well and eating and you make sure your water is in tip top condition, then I don't think you need worry.

But keep a close eye on them, and get your water tested, to be on the safe side. Did you transfer all your media over when you upgraded filters?

Haha! I did find your post! Shows how observant I am.

Congratulations, you have some beautiful boys  :good:

Flutter, this guy is the perfect customer and forum member :p his goldies went from what... a 40L tank to a 60 odd to a 180 odd to 280 odd liters in a matter of months :good: 4 little goldies rattling round in a ank that looks awesome!!

Water is spot on too!

The white spots were the tubercles on the males, down the front on the pectoral fins and a few on the cheeks. Happy looking black moore :good:

ps got a 40l ish ready for fry if any survive the weekend dependant on how long they take to hatch as i'm in somerset saturday night bit disapointed as gone from worried to really excited as done more research and they are definatly eggs :hyper:

Jeeez.... they really didnt hang about did they!?!? Randy goldfish lol

Hope all goes well and i'm not actually sure on time span for goldies hatching, i'm sure its something like 2-3 days  and hopefully we will see photos of babies before long!

Ah, thanks for the extra info, MBOU; that's so lovely to hear!

Well done on giving your goldies the kind of home they deserve, DrunkenMunky; it doesn't happen very often, so we love people who do the right thing :D

The eggs hatch in 3 to four days, depending on temperature, and the fry become free swimming after another two or three days.

ATM I have only been able to find and save 3 eggs as not sure wether she's finished laying but can already see little black bits in the eggs and assume thats a good thing, now just hoping i'm doing the right thing by setting up a small area inside the main tank to put them until they hatch its just after that i'm worried........... i mean what do tiny baby fish eat??? :S lol

Luckily goldfish fry are pretty easy to care for.

Clean water and whatever the adults eat, ground down; you can usually do flake in the palm of your hand, pellets might need putting in a bag and bashing with a rolling pin :)

awesome stuff thanks again for your help not even sure if they will make it but just in case

As she has started laying, it will be hardly any time at all before she does so again, only you'll be more prepared next time! (hopefully lol).

You could always get some liquifry, liquid food that you drop in or frozen rotifers/cyclops when they get a little bigger.
