Ok, ive had my tank for about 3 months now, and after purchasing 4 head and tail light tetras, 6 neons, 1 peppered cory, 4 glassfish, 2 silver sharks and 2 danios over the course of 2 months, my fish got white spot and i lost all except for 3 of the glass fish, both danios, all 6 tetras and my cory...BUT thinking the coast was clear for about 4 weeks i got 2 more daios and one bristenose, but lo and behold, the white spot has reappeared on my neons and my two new danios. WHAT IS GOING ON!!! i continued to treat the water even after the white spot was gone, so why has it come back!?? im so sick of this, and if it means im about to lose my fish again, i think i'm going to give up on keeping tropical fish. I haven't been able to buy any fish that i want as most of them i could only buy after my tank was fully established and due to this white spot pendemic ive had to do regular water changes and gravel cleans, and as most of my fish have died, there is no way im going to take the step and buy something else with fear it will die too!!
can anyone help???
how and when will i finally get rid of this! everytime i think its gone, it just comes back. My cory, neons and original danio survived the first outbreak, do u think they will be strong enough to survive the second?

Please help, i am desperate, i can't stand watching an entire community of my fish suffer from this. Am i doing something wrong? :-(

Hey - dont dispear with it, we've all had ich problems before.

Firstly - read this:-
http://www.fishforums.net/content/Tropical...-Ich-whitespot/

Next - use a medication like King British Ws3. Follow the instructions on the label to the letter. Increase temp as per instructions too.

if you have carbon in your filter remove it first. Once the Ich has gone, do another treatment and then after 48 hours do a 30% water change. Then re-add any carbon to remove meds.

DO NOT add fish for a few weeks, then add 4/5 at a time allowing a week or 2 inbetween to monitor your water stats.

While your treating increase aeration if possible, airstone etc.

The reason you get ich can be stress, poor water, infected fish from lfs. usually its brought on by poor water though. How often do you perform water changes ? Do you have a test kit ? How do you add new fish ?

Post back and someone will help you, but dont give up !! If you still dont understand post back and dont be afraid to ask.

are you buying the fish from the same LFS ??? or before you purchased the new fish did you inspect them thoroughly ??? to see if any of them also had whitespot that you may re introduce into your aquarium,

I only ask as i had something similar happen and it turned out the the LFS i had been to had a section of tanks that were on a separate filtration system to the others and when i looked real close at the stock noticed that one or two appeared to have white spot, since then i spend a few more mins trying to look at every fish in the tanks to see if i can spot any white spot.

I'm not 100% certain but i am sure i have seen other post that suggest slightly turning up the temp on your heater as the higher temp will kill off the whitespot (itch) the more experienced on here will be able to advise better on this, also i dont know if your current stock will be able to deal with a higher water temp while your trying to rid the itch and wouldn't want you to put extra stress on your fish.

I hope all goes well though !!!!!!

ok, i have already removed the carbon from my filters, so i think the medication should b working, i generally perform water changes every 2 weeks as my tank is 30 gallons and i my fish generally dont make too much mess. Im quite certain they haven't gotten it from any other fish because lately ive been keeping an eye out for infected fish before i buy them. The first batch that died came from one LFS but the ones i have now (and most of those that survived) i got from a different LFS because i was worried the original one was dodgy!
I dont have a water test kit, but my LFS that i have been going to does regular water tests for me and apparently our water is quite good. I think the neons might be carriers?? if thats possible...its just that the neons seemed to survive it last time regardless of the fact they caught it aswell, and now the spots have returned, they seem ok again but the danios dont...
Ive also turned off the light and increased the water temp. Last time even though the treatment seemed to work, the only real way i finally got rid of is was that the last infected ones died. I really dont want this to happen again argh!!
Thankyou so much for your help, hopefully i'l b more succeessful this time.
