Hi all,

To my horror last night i found two white spots on my blue gourami. I had noticed that he was looking a bit on the rough side. To be hounest i did think age had caught up with him and he would soon die. But he is still here so treatment time!

I ve read the links on treating white spot. I just got a few more questions i need some help with.

1. The rest of the fish in the tank are not showing signs so should i treat the whole tank for white spot or should i put the affected fish in a quarantine tank and treat him on his own?

2. Any reccomendations for a white spot treatment available in the uk.

All help will be gratefully recieved!

Cheers!

Treat the tank as a whole, white spot spreads extremely quickly and i would have thought your other fish would be showing signs soon.
Turn up the temp as high as you species permit to speed up the ichthyopthiriasis life cycle (warning; be careful that the tank is well oxygenated to avoid hypoxia). Keep an eye out for secondary infections. If possible perform as many gravel vacs as you can. Treat a couple of days longer than reccomended by the treatment manufacturers as meds will only kill off the free living stages.

Waterlife Protozin and Tetramedica Contraspot are widely available in the UK.
You could also consider treating with salt.

Undertreat if you have loaches in the tank.

No probs, can you get any decent pics of it?
Just so other members can confirm.....
Better safe than sorry.....
