Two weeks ago i bought a plec and put it in my tank - Today i have noticed a dead fish in my tank and it was covered in white spots!!!!

On looking at the rest of the fish they are all covered in white spots - what do i do?????

Am i going to loose all of my fish?????

You'd be best posting this in the tropical emergency forum.

To point you in the right direction tho, whitespot is a parasite which usually affects fish when their immune system gets depressed. You can get medications from your lfs that will treat it. Be sure to check the medication is compatible with your fish stock, scaleless fish and inverts are vulnerable to some meds.

The advice I was given when I had whitespot in my tank was to increase the tank temperature slowly to about 30 degrees centigrade while treating, this speeds up the lifecycle of the parasite allowing the medication more chances to attack it. Between that and following the instructions on the bottle the whitespot cleared up in a few days. Make sure you treat for a day or two after all the spots are gone so you can be sure the parasites are all killed off.

Good luck !

edit : lol just noticed this was a double post... you're getting help in the other one :)

I'm not expert on white spots but i remember seeing something about white spots on a melafix bottle. Maby try that?

If there covered in it get treating fast.
Turn temp up to 30, remove black carbon if you use it, increase aeration as the med and high temp reduce 02 in the water.
Read meds instructions carefully.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the advice - I have lost another bleeding heart tetra so i am not being too hopeful :-(

I will keep you all up to date and again thanks for the advice
