Hi all,

I've had a WS problem for over a month, I've been using King British WS3 as directed, but after 2 weeks the problem doesn't seem to be clearing. The fish get better for a couple of days and it bounces back again.

I have also noticed a oily kinda' film over the surface of the water. plenty of agitation but not clearing. I was told that it could be a kind of algae so I reduced light but still there.

The main problem fish is my Mollie (I know I need brackish water but wasn't told this by the lfs when I brought her!), she the only one who really gets affected but now I've noticed my Platy's getting some.

I also have clown loach and I'm afraid that if is keep adding med's that they are going to suffer also.

Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated.......

hey

water stats? ammonia, nitrite and nitrate
tank size
full list of inhabitants

increase you temp a few degrees each hour untill you get to about 31 if possible, then add some surface agitation to put oxygen back in the water this should kill it without meds

if it keeps bouncing back then it could be your water quality...

Hey,

Stats are fine and normal

240l

1 x Mollie (Keeps getting WS)
6 x Cardinal Tetras
3 x Cherry barbs (very scatty and jumpy, one FM keeps flicking of surfaces and plants)
3 x Platy's (just noticed today having WS)
5 x Guppy's
1 x BN Plec
2 x Clown
6 x Kuhli Loach
2 x Amano Shrimp

I do have good surface agitation and I have increased the temp (I did read about the temp but forgot so thanks for the reminder)

Does the surface film have a link with the WS or is just surface algea?

Thanks for your help.

What filter are you using?
Do you feed live foods.
Do you over feed the fish.

If you have only been half dosing the med it takes longer.

I would change meds.
Do a water change and run some black carbon.
Try anti whitespot med by interpet.

I use a fluval 305
I don't feed live foods
and I feed once every 2 days

I am currently using half doses due to the Clown Loach, I was using interpet but that didn't seem to work very well either, I have done several water changes over the weeks including a 70/80% change as I was getting quite worried.

Very frustrating, I can't seem to shake this, do you think that as the molly is the one who is always showing the WS first or the only one most of the time that she may be a big contributor or is it that she is weak due to not being in her more suitable (Brackish) environment.

at a bit of a loose end with this lot ATM, just checking the fish now I have noticed that the spots on the molly have doubled and got a lot more noticeable from the time I posted this thread.

You have to give the whitespot med time to work. It can take two rounds of meds to get rid of whitespot.
I think the interpet med better than the esha exit. Seen alot of post saying the esha exit dosn't seem to work sometimes.

Also the temp needs to be 30 to speed the life cycle of the parasite up.
