Hi

I am very new to fishkeeping and I have just put six glowlight tetras in my tank. I've just noticed what appears to be a white spot (like a grain of salt) on the tail fin of one of the tetras. Is this white spot? what should I do?

Ph - 7

Amonia - 0

Nitrate - 8

Nitrite - 0.1

We did cycle the tank for before putting fish in and the temperature is 26 degrees.

thanks for any help, suggestions you can give.

First thing, don't panic! It could be nothing, it could be whitespot but at this point the best thing you could do is keep up with water changes and get the nitrite down to 0. Keep posting and let us know how it's going.

If the spot is the size of a grain of salt sounds like whitespot.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing against objects, or laboured breathing.

No signs of any flicking or rubbing although on closer inspection this morning one of the other tetras has a wee white spot too. Heading to the lfs to get some meds for the tank this morning. I have 5 guppies in the tank too and they show no signs of spots and are swimming around as normal.

Fish have been treated this week for whitespot and now no sign of it in the tank. In fact now wondering if it was whitespot in the first place. Anyway important thing is fish all seem fine and swimming around happily :)
