ok, I have a white spot infestion that I am treating with king british white spot treatment and the heater is up to 29 degs. The spots are definitely disappearing (gone from the black neons that were the first ones with it), but one of the black neons tail fins has completely gone. Also the same has happened to one neon tetra. I had been treating with melafix, is this enough? what else can I do and does this always happen with white spot infections?

appreciate any help!

Sadly finrot common on top of whitespot.
Melafix is no good on advanced finrot, you will have to get rid of the whitespot first i'm afraid.
Once most of the tail gone and they are struggling to swim they won't make it, sorry.

thought as much. just lost 2 neons and a black tetra tonight. lets hope the others make it.

Sorry bless them R.I.P.
Good luck with the rest.

this morning everyone else is still alive. platies look very unhappy, but I think that could be partly to do with the hot temperature. White spots have almost gone from everyone and the fins are a bit raggy in places but not too bad. so hopefully we are over the worst of it. A few more days then hopefully the tank will be a happy household again! I do hope so.

Did you increase aeration in the tank.

yes, filter is pumping on max strength with max bubble effect across the surface. The tetra's and otto seem fine, platies are eating when fed, but spend most of the time just hiding on the bottom. they do seem to be completely clear of whitespot now though, so thats good.

Cant turn the temp down yet as there are still a couple of spots on one fish.

No leave temp for another week to make sure it's completely gone.
