My tank has been set up for a little under a week, is all ok, today (after cleaning the inside of the glass) I noticed hundreds of tiny white specs floating around in the water? Any ideas of what it could be? Everything in there is clean and new, the filters been running for a while so I cant explain it?

Any help = much appreciated :)

hi what did u use to clean the inside of the glass with

Probably going to get abused but just a well washed cotton flannel.

Just seemed a bit odd to get hundreds of tiny white specs, even after hours of filtration, from a cloth that doesnt dissintergrate/etc in water? Nm

Never use cloths in fish tanks, never know what been on them, plus they can habour bacteria.
Invest in a glass cleaner.
Just run some fresh filter floss.
Sounds like bits have come of the cloth.

Sounds like planarians, most likely, and are usually present when there are bad water conditions.

I take it you're cycling this tank? If so, the ammonia you're adding may be the cause.

No worries though, as they're harmless.

If the tank is infested with them no there not harmless.
But never hear horror stories so wouldn't worry.
Just a good vac is all it usually takes to get rid of them.
But ammonia reading won't help.

Thanks everyone, will try to get it sorted pronto ^_^
