Hi there

I've been fishless cycling my tank for about a week and a half (after finally tracking down some ammonia), and i've kick started it with some media from another tank. Ammonia looks to be dropping to 0 in about 12hrs, and nitrite is starting to drop to a readable level after 24 hrs. A few days after i started cycling the tank some small white specs appeared, which flow around the tank in the water movement produced by the filter. The water is clear except for these specs. I thought at first they were tiny air bubbles (there are millions of them, less than 1mm) but on closer inspection i'm sure they aren't. The only thing i think they could be are snail eggs, the live plants we put in had some hitch hikers that i think are trumpet snails. I have no idea if that is what they are, just a guess really, but more snails keep appearing. So, does anyone have any ideas what it could be, and also if the snails are alright in my tank.

Thanks

Trina

I have the same problem but not as many as you seem to have. they are either small snails or the eggs. i just squash them against the glass when i see them and this seems to be keeping the numbers down.
