my green tiger barb has white specks on its face! Its been like that for the past few weeks, it is always by the heater and its never eating. It is really skinny and scrawny right now. Im pretty sure this is a sickness... will it spread through the tank to my other tiger barbs? how do i treat it? PLEASE HELP!

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

The whites specs do they look like grains of salt.
How big are the white specs, and do they look fluffy.
Check the eyes for whites specs behind the lens of the eye.
Lost any fish to bent spines.
What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
How often do you feed the fish. Has the fish lost weight due to not eating.
Check the anus of the fish to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Does the fish swim on its side.
Does the belly look sunken in.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Does the fish dart around the tank.
Any sign of laboured breathing or gasping at the surface of the tank.

its dieing right now! I just found it on the bottom of my tank lying there. I took it out and put it in another container. The white specks look like grains of sand. It is floating upside down right now, every once in a while it shivers/vibrates! I feed my fish everyday! They are in a 65 gallon tank with 10 other tiger barbs. water parameters are fine. WHAT DO I DO!!! iput a teeny bit of water conditioner inside.

Get a jug of cold water and add some ice cubes till the water freezing cold. Add the fish it won't take long for it to pass away. Leave the fish a while to make sure its passed on. Check the gills are not moving.

Its sounds like whitespot if the spots are the size of a grain of sand.

The fish is not going to make it so you might aswell put him out of his misery.

NO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, HE HAS A CHANCE TO SURVIVE, IM rubbing the white spots off of him with a chopstick, it looks like hes doing better actually. hes actually swimming a little now. Im pretty sure hes still going to die, but, its worth a chance. Everyone deserves a chance to live. im not gona kill him just like that.

Once fish turn upside down there rarely make it. It a sign of a dying fish.
If the fish looks like it's been sprinked it salt its whitespot. Is the fish flicking and rubbing.
Are any of the other fish flicking and rubbing.

nope none, is this going to destroy all my fish!? yea the green barb is flicking, twitching

If the ill fish has whitespot the whole tank needs treating.
Whitespot is a fast killer once if affects the gills.
Is is possible to load a pic up of the sick fish.

wait, now the green barb is normal, after i scratched off all the tiny white specks. It is swimming normaly, but not really active. Ill try to post a pic. What medicine do i get, the white speck treatment?

Has all the white specs come off.
What substrate do you have.
If you suspect whitespot you need to go to the lfs and buy a whitespot med.
Raise temp to 30 once you added the med and increase aeration, as the high temp and med reduce 02 in the water.
Remove black carbon from filter if you use it.
Read med instructions that you can use the full dose with the fish you keep.

ahh i cant find the camera, i dont think i can upload a pic but just imagine a really skinny green tiger barb that has tiny white specks on it. I brushed off alot of white specks, (might of saved him) he is actually swimming upright to my surprise right now. what medicine do iget, and what do i do now to hold off the parasite until i get to go out to my LFS. I'm only 14 years old!! I AM INEXPERIENCED!!

You need to go to the lfs straight away if the fish has whitespot or you could lose the whole tank.
Need to find out why he's skinny as it can be many things from not feeding enough, fish isn't eating, internal parasites, fish tb, old age.
Some external parasites can cause fish to lose weight aswell.

Don't raise temp till you get the med as it speeds the life cycle up of the parasite.
What fish do you have in the tank?

all tiger barbs 1 pleco and 2 corys. Okay, ill see what i can do to go to the store, thanks for the help. also, do i just leave it alone and stop bothering it until i get the med.? can i change the water to wash the parasites off?

Water changes won't wash the parasite off the fish.
Do a water change and gravel vac before you add the med.
If you have to preform a water change during a med course just add the correct amount of med back to water removed.
Get you a link to whitespot.

In some country whitespot goes under the name ich.
