I change my 175 litre tank water once a week (50%). Tank is one year old today - has community fish platies, ottos, siamese, dwarf gourami about 20 fish in all.

After changing filter sponges (Eheim Pro 11) and hoovering the substrate - i fill the tank with clean tap water and it is still very cloudy with white specs of 'snow'.

I feed flake once a day and i have started using catfish tabs which sink to the bottom. These seem to dissolve very quickly and i am wondering if they are the main cause.

I have to either change the water more frequently or try different foods. I am confused as to how much to feed - i am aware of putting in flakes that they can eat in 3 mins.

Any comments or observations greatfully received.

They could be. I have tried many a different sinking formulas for bottom dwellers, and almost all of them broke up within a minute on the bottom only to be cast around by fins and swimming fish. It created a huge mess in the tank.
