Hi, hope its ok to get stuck straight in with some questions

We've just set up a 76 litre tank(aquaone510) with water, gravel, bogwood and plants. It has built in lighting and filtration, and we've added a heater set to 25 degrees at present.
Its been up and running nearly two weeks, the bogwood, plants and heater were all added approx one week ago. We added water treatments, and filter treatments as prescribed.

We just noticed that the rubber suction cups that hold the heater to the inside of the glass have a white substance on them, and we were wondering what it is, why its there and what we can do about it (if its an issue). Nothing else seems to have it?

Hope someone can offer some advice. Thanks in advance.

I'm not entirely sure what it is but my suckers have the same, i don't think it's anything to worry about!
Welcome to the forum anyway! :hi:

I have this as well. Only on the rubber suction cups too! Would love to hear an answer. Here is a picture of mine. Does it look like yours?

Hi there

Thanks for the welcome & replies!

Yes your suction cups look like ours.. its a very strange substance as when scraped, it flakes off.. weird :/

same thing also happens to me, ive never cleaned it so its getting pretty thick now, but it seems like it happens only to Stealth heaters (?) in the picture above i believe that was a Stealth heater, and I have one too.

Stealth heaters are absolutely the best heaters around though!

It could be the compound of rubber they use for the suckers. Could have a charge that attracts minerals out of the water.

Yup, believe it's limescale - my heaters get it (but only on the top of them by the dial, not on the suction cups) - I just take it out every now and then and clean it off in old tank water when I'm doing a water change (normally comes off by rubbing it with your fingers, or I now use a nail brush to make life a bit easier)
