So, in the past month I've noticed a white residue that has developed randomly on the inside of the tank glass. Just below the water line, in the middle of the glass, just above the gravel... etc... It's random. I've looked closely and it doesn't look like worms or anything, so I'm assuming it's just hard water build-up. I don't think it's a form of algae, I mean, it's white... not green or brown. Is it some form of algae?

I was able to get it off with a little elbow grease and an algae sponge scrubber. That works for about 2-3 days and it's built up again. Not necessarily in the same spots, like I said... it's really random.

Here are some photos:

Do I just use more elbow grease and the algae sponge? Or is there some sort of tank cleaner I could use? I've read that vinegar works but would that require me housing my betta else ware? The only other "tank" I have is a 1 gal. I do have a heater for it that says at a stable 76°F.

What do you guys suggest?

it looks like calcium residue from hard water. Use a single sided/edged razor blade and scrape it off.

I have hard water where I live, and it looks like what I get on my tank. I get rid of limescale with a magnetic algae cleaner and kleenex.

I drop the water level and give it a bit of a scrub, then top up the tank again.

White vinegar does it but your'll have to empty your tank, and then rinse realy well.
