Hi Guys/ Girls

I have just read on another thread that white poo is caused or is a sign of an internal parasite? Now I have a dwarf blue gourami who has been hiding alot lately and resting at the bottom corner of the tank behind some bogwood and each time he poos it is white. He no longer entertains the female he is in with and infact she is actually harassing him.
My stats are good and the tank is heavily planted with co2

PH 7.8 Ammonia 0 Nitrate 10 Nitrite 0

the only recent additions are 3 african dwarf frogs and 5 apple snails so alot of bloodworm has gone in the tank recently as I have cory's in there too a cube a day is going in.Another thing to add id a frien of mine says he say it nip off an apple snails tentacle but i'm not sue on this or indeed if it would cause the Gourami problems.

Is there any treatments I could use I haven't put anything in yet as I'm not sure what ADF's will tolerate??

Thanks

Long stringy whhite poo can be constipation, bacterial infection, internal parasites.

What do you feed the fish?
Does the fish look bloated or thin.
Has the fish gone pale in colour or darker.
Is the fish still eating.
Does the fish act listless and lethagic.
Are scales sticking out.
Is the fish anus enlarged or red and inflamed.
Is the spine bending.
Any sores or red streadking on the body of the fish.

thanks for getting back to me Wilder.

the fish is very lathargic of late and has found a spot under my internal filter and just sits there for prolonged periods and comes out now and again. I wouldn't say he has any of the symptoms you described other than the long stringy white poo and that prior to his lethargy he was large but looked more stocky than bloated.
I feed a variety in the tank such as flake with dried blood worms, frozen blood worms for the frogs, King british cat fish pellets for the cories and I put the odd algae tablet in from time to time. althhough I think he may be a little bloated as I have been feeding heavily with the frozen blood worm for the frogs benefit I may try and isolate the frogs feeding and see if that has an impact on his health as everything in the tank gorges on the frozen blood worm.

thanks

Need more frozen foods in daphnia and brime shrimp.
Also some fish love veg like broc, sproats, cabbage, spinach, peas.

I would feed some shelled peas.
Over feeding bloodworms can bloat fish up.
I think I would issolate him and keep an eye on him, as he might need a bacterial med.

Bad news the fish didn't see out the weekend but I have acquired a new pair so although a loss, I have gained and with a better balance of one male to two females!
Thanks for your help wilder

Ok.
Poor thing. R.I.P.

Sorry to highjack and :rip:

I have two Bolivian Rams and one of which had a sunken belly when I got him. He is very lively and eats well however I am concerned about his white stringy poo.. it doesn't look right at all not when all the other fish have normal brown solid stuff.

theyre fed flake, catfish pellets, hikari chiclid pellets, frozen bloodworm, daphnia, brime shrimp and the occasional shelled pea..

anythin else i can give them?

thanks

If the fish has a sunken in belly when eating well it can be a sign of bacterial infection, fish tb, internal parasites.

Signs of internal parasites are.
Long stringy white poo, clear mucas poo, red poo.
Red inflamed anus or enlarged anus.
Fish will look skinny or bloated.
Sunken in belly.
Bent spine.
Fish will sometimes swim on it's side.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
Sometimes the fish will flick and rub.

ok thanks Wilder, well I he's got the long stringy white poo, clear mucas poo and the Sunken Belly. None of the rest. Do I need to treat him with medicine? And would that mean quarantine too?

Been searching high and low for a 'de-wormer' product but can't get a good match :S

I'm in the UK does any one from the UK here buy a de-wormer product off the net thats good/wprked for them?

It depends on which internal parasite it is for med.

Only know of 3 meds you can buy online, Wormer plus, sera, watelife med called sterazin.
The waterlife meds only controls them.

Here a link to the sera med.

hmm.. all I have to go on is that out of all my fish only one Bolivian Ram has a slight sunken belly and clear/white long stringy poo. No other symptons upto now. I'm trying to get him to eat shelled peas on a daily basis to clear him out a bit. Other than his symptons he is very lively and eating well. If its internal thats causin this i'm not sure what exactly it is without being able to see it :/

Sunken in belly and long stringy white poo indicates a bacterial infection, internal parasites, fish tb.

With only two symtoms It hard to point it towards which one.
