White Patches On Side Of Face

My (not so) little boy has white patches on the side of his face. I'm guessing it's some sort of fungus, but I really don't know. I would like to post a picture but prob can't until next Sunday..he's had it for awhile, but it's been very small and I thought it was just his coloring, but now it's spread out some. He hardly moves around but still seems to eat normal. I've added some betta fix but it hasn't done anything yet.

Also... Betta Fix seems to just stay at the top of the water and make the surface look cloudy. He doesn't have a filter so I do frequent water changes. I know it's best to always have a filter but will Betta Fix work without one?

Maracyn one and two sounds like columnaris.
Will need an airstone though as you must have aeration in his tank.
