hi
Tne single white patch is on my red swordtail's body. It is just near its head about its "shoulder" perhaps, the fish is looking a little bit stressed and he going up and down the glass quite a lot. What type of disease is this?the fish is in my 35g tank with 2 gouramies, 2 shark,2 ruby barb, 2 queen loach,2 ram cichlid and 2 Pencil. Do I need to separate the fish? what type of medication should I use? Please suggest something.
It does not look like ich and it also does not have the cotton wool appearance. It is about the size of its eyes or slightly bigger.

Thanks,
Mimi

Stats would be good in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
The shark can you name them as you not meant to keep some together.
The patch does it look like a greyish white patch that has a circling of red around it, or a spot in the centre of it.

I do not have a testing kit but I would expect so. I changed 20% water today and the water does look a bit cloudy. I do not know if I can get a testing kit here locally. I am in India.
The sharks -- 1 rainbow & I redtail. They seem to be compatible. I did have 2 rainbows earlier and had to return 1 as he would chase the other one.
The spot does not have a spot or a ring around it. It looks greyish white as you say. The spot also does seem to form a extremely small depression in the body. It seems as if the skin has gone white in there.
I googled for information but zilch so far. Your help is very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mimi

It's going to be hard without stats.
A cloudy tank can be bad water quality, bacterial bloom, or the filter not coping with the load of fish in there.
I don't think rainbow and red tailed shark are compatiable.
Is the fish flicking, grey patches can be poor water quality.
You havent mentioned how many gallons or litres the tank is.
How often do you change the water and do a gravel vac.

My husband does a gravel cleaning every week and also 20% water change. I did a cleaning today. The tank is 35 gallons. It has been in use for about 3 months now. The swordtails are among my oldest fish as I put them in about 10 days after I bought the tank. They are about 9 months old. They used to stay in my smaller 10 gallon aquarium before I shifted them to this about 2 months back. I do not want to lose them and I love themso much. They are vey lovely fishes.
what can I do now to improve the water?

Thanks,
Mimi

If the tank is cloudy and you are doing gravel vac and a water change once a week the filter not coping with the load.
What filter is it and how many gallons does it turn over an hour.
Do you have an lfs that can test your water.

Though if you have only had it set up 3 months it could still be cycling, and with out them stats it hard to say.

You are meant only to do a gravel vac once the tank has cycled that mean when ammonia and nitrite is 0.

may be,i thought the cycling is over,i am doing gravel vac last 3 weeks, before that i used to change partial water change once a week.
thanks
