Hello all need some experienced advice here...
Tank size:75 US gallons
pH:6.9
ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:20
kH:-
gH:-
tank temp:76 F

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
New 1.5 Inch Oscar has a small white patch on pectoral fin. Doesnt look like ich because it is a little larger than ich spots. It is a circular white spot about the size of a matchhead, and does not protrude above the fin another reason I dont think its ich. The fish is not flicking or acting strange at all, is eating plenty and is very active. I am thinking some kind of fungus?
Volume and Frequency of water changes:
25 percent at least once a week, depends on Nitrate levels...
Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:
None, I dont use carbon either (excpet for removing meds)
Tank inhabitants:
1 Oscar,3 pictus cat, African Knife fish, Gold Severum, 5 silver dollars
Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
None
Exposure to chemicals:
None
Digital photo (include if possible):N/A

Edit-Just remebered my silver dollars.

Possible Fin fungus.
Cotton-like fluff or wispy growth trailing fin.
Does it look similar to this??

or possibly this?
Darn, it doesnt look like either. Thats what I mean by not protruding, Its not sticking above the fin at all, Its almost like someone put a touch of white paint in the center of his pectoral fin but its def something. It just looks too big to be ich and doesnt stick out like the "grains of sand" like ich does. Also he is acting fine. Any other ideas? Thanks for the reply.

Hmm.. now that I think about it sounds like possible nipping from another fish?

Nope, Its right in the middle of his pectoral fin and his finnage is in great condition. This is really starting to bug me....It hasnt gotten worse nor better but I need to figure out what it is so I can treat if needed...thanks again for helping any other ideas?

Ok now I have noticed a little bit of the first link you gave me (the one on the blue ram). He has a tiny bit of gray/white barely trailing on his side next to his stomach...Can give me an idea of what to treat with?

Uptade to myself and fishkies: I have narrowed it down to some sort of fungus. Luckily I caught it fairly early. I plan on picking on some pimafix tomorrow and moving him into my qt tank. Thanks fishkies for your willigness to help and advice. I will post update on how the treatment goes so if others find this thread it may help. Until then...

Jungle Fungus Clear Tabs will work well to. I have them and it has cleared problems for me in less then 48hours.
