I bought a fluval edge a while ago and I had 4 Mollies in the tank but then I was told they wernt suitable but then discovered a Mollie fry which i have left and I will transfer to a bigger tank in a few weeks, now I got 5 guppies and nearly 2 weeks ago and 4 have died and 1 is still alive but it appears to be a lot fatter than the others was and it has White on it's tail I've only noticed it in the last few hours, does anyone know what this is? I was told when I got the guppies that one from that bunch died the day before being transported home so he told me if anything happens within 48 to call him but nothing did, but the 4 that died didn't have this White on their tail that a noticed anyway but the last one that died seemed to rest a lot at the bottom of the tank I don't have a clue what's wrong with them

can you fill out this form to make it clearer to us please?

white of the tail is normally a fin rot problem. You could try a salt bath if you wanted- it tends to be my first choise if something seems up with the fish because it is such a forgiving treatment and can help all sorts of problems.
I'd wait for someone to comfirm but if it is fin rot then you best bet is just clean water. do you have a test kit so you can test the water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? -they can cause a lot of problems as they poison your fish (not so much nitrAte)
Also guppies can be a bit touch and go I've found- they're not always that strong.

i dont have a test kit ive been trying to get one the last few days but everywhere is out of stock!!!

hhmmm tong garden centre have then in stock API ones i was there today also pets at home sell API, MA sell several types, paws for thought, living world infact i been in all of them this week and they have loads in stock and are all near leeds....

Ebay or some aquatic site's on the internet have test kits for a good price as well.

OK, going back to the problem of the dying fish and the potential fin rot problem, it sounds like an uncycled filter.

When you set up the tank, did you add any sort of ammonia to the tank, prior to adding the fish?

How often do you change water, and how much in one go?

I changed the wat last time on Tuesday i changed about 50% of the water as i was told not to change the water for a month or so, and i did not add any amonia to the tank only thing i have added is Nutrafin Aqua plus and water condition

Let me guess, you are following the advice of your lfs, right? It sounds like you do not have a cycled filter. If it isn't cycled, there is no beneficial bacteria to eat the ammonia your fish are producing. You will need to do large water changes every day until you can get a test kit to keep track of the levels. The symptoms you described sound like fin rot. This can also be caused from poor water quality.

oh my god, how crap is this store!

Puhlease do a nice big 95% change now and post the results (if possible) and never listen to them again!

In one month in an uncycled tank without a W/C they most probably all have died

Yes they told me to leave the tank for one week empty with the filter running then i could add fish so of course i did, and they told me Mollies would be perfectly suitable until i asked on here and people said they wern't suitable so i swapped them for 5 Guppies (4 have died) and there is one guppie left and a baby mollie (i discovered this little guy the day i went to take out the Mollies), hopefully i shall be getting a bigger tank soon so when its bigger ill move it to the bigger tank. The 4 Mollies i had were perfectly fine. I am thinking of getting a API test kit from eBay for £22 new, are these test kits any good?, also i bought some solution today from my LFS that helps fish that have fungus etc. so hopefully this will save this fish, although tonight when i last looked the guppie was constantly just floating at the top and then would occasionally move, so i hope this isnt of sign of it going to die. I may try and get the water tested and another LFS i know of they told me if i bring a small amount of the tank water then they can test it for me.

guppy sounds like ammonia poisoning, The API is ok but if you can get the salifert

Always use liquid test kits

to confirm i think it is fin rot as a part of its tail now missing, so if i get a test kit and it is amonia poisioning, what can i do?? or is this fish to far gone? :(
