Hello,

I have hard, gritty white things floating on top of my 30 gal tank. My tank is fairly new and the fish that are in it are only one week old. I'm still new to this whole tropical fish thing so please bare with me. :) I noticed while I was doing a 20% water change before I put the Ich treatment in that there are these little white balls floating around. I took one of them out with my hand and pinched it and they crumble away as if it were like calcium build up. Not to sure why I would get these because I use town water and my cold humidifier doesn't have calcium build up neither does any of my dishware. What would the white balls be? I'm also in the process of trying to treat a case of Ich as one of my fish have it bad. I'm not sure if he is gonna survive or not because he looks like he is in bad condition. I put the Ich treatment in today and raised the water temp to 84 degrees yesterday. I hope it's not to late for the little guy. Could it have something to do with the Ich problem? Thanks Guys! :)

What is your water hardness? Are these things round or some other shape? What size?

If you did not cycle your new fish with household ammonia, I strongly recommend that you read about fish-in cycling: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/
