Does anyone know what this growth is on my flying fox's nose?

It started out with a red nostril but has now grown into the growth. It sit about 1mm of his body and is about 2.5 mm in diameter, it's slightly pink in colour (red and white speckles) and doesn't really look cotton wool like, more like a wart almost (but obviously not!).

Has anyone ever seen this before?

It's hard to describe - it looks like it might be a bit spongey - but probably more like a marshmellow in texture by the look of it. The fox seems to be eating but is noticeable hiding. The tip of his mouth is fine and eyes look fine as well, it just seems to have almost grown out of an inflamed nostril cavity.

Any ideas?

Are you sure it's just coming out of his nostril? Is it growing off of his head at all?

Well it started with an inflamed nostril and now it covers it. I suppose you could say it's on it's head

I would treat it as bacterial for now.
Good luck.
