I was doing a water change when I took this so that’s why the water is so low.

I was observing my platys today and I noticed one of them has a white splotch on her side. I’m thinking it’s a fungus but I’m not sure. I tested the water, did a 70% water change, and added aquarium salt. I’m wondering what I should do going forward.

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 20 ppm
PH: 8.2 (higher than last time I tested)
Temp: 79 degrees F, 25 degrees C (correct me if that’s wrong, I’m American, 😝)

Tank age: started 8/24/2020
Tank size: 10 gallons
Tank mates: 1 other platy, 1 blue mystery snail, 3 amano shrimp

The most commonly seen fungus on fish in aquariums is Saprolegnia, which looks like white hairs sticking up from a wound.

The fish looks like it has excess mucous on a wound. Clean water and salt should clear it up.

How long have the fish had the white on their mouth for?
How long have you had the fish for?

That makes sense. The Mickey Mouse platy chases her around the tank even though they’re both female.

I got both fish on April 21st. So I haven’t had them long.

I think the lighter coloring on their mouths may have just been the lighting or something because I just checked on them again and their mouths looked normal.
