I like the idea of treatment journals.

I noticed that my large veil tail angel has a white cotton-like growth on his fin and there is an associated red streak. It is not ick because that is more like a grain of salt and this definitely has a cotton look to it and is bigger in diameter than ick. I was really worried about the red streak but it wasn't that noticeable. I am suspecting that this is related to an injury.

So here is the journal.

60 gallon tank: 7 congo tetras, 1 rotkeil severum, 5 cupid cichlids, 1 pearl gourami (added 3 weeks ago), 1 BN, 1 clown pleco, 2 angel fish, 2 snails.

Day One, because I determined that it was not ich, I decided to go with a less intensive treatment to begin with. I put a full strength dose of Pimafix and a full strength dose of Melafix, both "natural" remedies of tea tree oil and Indian Bay tree oil.

Day Two: Red streak gone, but 2 cotton spots on dorsal fin of one cupid cichlid. This could be an injury because my severum has taken to nipping from above. But there is also one possible tiny spot on fin of Gourami.

Day Three: 30% Water change and redosed Pimafix and Melafix. The spots on the cupid seem to be less intense. The spot on the angel is still noticeable, no significant change. Still unsure about the gourami, am a little worried that this looks more like ICH but I'll watch it. Left water level lower so there was more aeration as I read that this type of fungus prefers still water.

Will report back.

Okay, ask and you shall receive. Photos. Not easy. Anytime I approach this guy thinks I'm going to feed him. So he does not keep still but I think this will give you the idea.

Day 5 - Angel is the same, Cupid cichlid spots continue to fade. Gourami spot, small but looks unchanged. No signs of flickin. flashing or any other odd behavior. Did a 30% water change.

Am suspecting that these might be injuries on the rays of the fins and developing into calcium deposits. I'll redose the Pimafix and Melafix tomorrow.
