right ... i've just started my fishless cycle and my ammonia is at somewhere between 2-4 ppm and nitrite is still at zero. but it appears like there is this film on top of the water and its got bits of white or particles on there. i have no idea what this is!
GH is at about 7o
KH is at about 10o
pH is at 7.2

i have 2 plants in there now just to pretty things up and no fish!
any one have any ideas on what the white bits on top are and if they are a bad sign or not???
cheers

Do you have a filter running? If so is the outflow displacing (disturbing) the waters surface?

It could be from the plants (which it's best to rinse them under the tap before you put them in your tank) or any tank decorations you may have added.

Also it could be something that was in the substrate (gravel or sand) or even something that could have fallen in (do you have a hood?)

Best bet is to grab your fish net and just run it along the surface to clear this away - if it happens again then if you haven't really cleaned your gravel well when you setup I would try and clean it somehow.

Hello,
i have this current problem with my fish tank i set-up my fish tank with a filter and heater and this white film kept on appearing so i put my finger in and swirled it around and it turned into small white bits in the water like dust.I had my water checked (everything fine) so i started adding fish Guppies,Danios and a pleco it was fine! Although i don't no hte cause
