I currently have a small 5G tank and it has a whisper filter on it. This filter has no pull at all. I am looking at getting a 20G or 29G tank and put 6 guppies and 6 mollies in it to breed. Have 2 questions. First is which of these tanks do you recommend? Second is are the bigger whisper filters any good? I don't really like the hang on back filters, so was thinking about the whisper or some other internal filter. What is something you guys would recommend, or should I just suck it up and go with hang on back?

i have always had problems and hear more people complain about whispers. seems they tend to break fairly easy. have heard good things about aquaclears though

I've heard the same, which is why I'd never buy one.

I like Emperors and Aquaclear.

The larger one, of course! :) I don't have any "scientific" reasons for that or anything - I just think a bigger tank would be better

I have a Whisper 10-20 (I think) for my 10-gallon tank, but it is an external filter. I like it just fine. I've had absolutely no problems with it and, as the name suggests, it is very quiet. Never had any problems with the internal Whisper filter on my five-gallon tank when I had that set up either. The flow is adjustable on the 2-5 Whisper internal filters - there's a slide-bar on the bottom or side of the power-thingy that's at the bottom of the filter canister.

A hang on back obviously takes up less tank space than an internal filter, so there's that to consider.

I've got an external whisper filter for my 20 gallon tank, and it serves me just fine. ;)
