Tyr, my HM male betta has been in a tank with a broken light now for a couple of months. I tried all sorts to fix it, but in the end it turned out that the starter had completely fried and there was no way to replace it (stupid design). It has a decent enough exposure to light from where the tank is, and I have a couple of spot lights in it, but its not brilliant. I've felt guilty for ages now for him being in the dull light, plus his plants are slowly dying. I can afford to buy him a new tank now (though I do have quite a low budget >.<), and thought it would be a good idea to ask people's opinions on the best buy.

I've found these two so far, by All Pond Solutions.

Tank 1
Tank 2

At the moment I'm inclined to go with Tank 2, because if the light broke then it would be much easier to replace. Unfortunately my budget is only £50, but if anyone else can recommend a good tank in that price range then that'd be great.

Although I really like the two above, I'm a bit worried about what the filter strength will be like, especially in the second tank, as it seems to be a mini external.

Thanks for any ideas :good:

Go with tank 2
The filter is a HOB (hang on the back filter) and has very gentle current. As you said the lighting is much easier to replace. Tank 1's lighting is virtually unheard of and not common at all

Great ^^ I like the look of tank 2 more as well, I just wasn't sure on the external :)

I'm really looking forward to doing a mini aqua-scape on this :D I haven't had the chance to set a new tank up in a while

Thanks for the advice Carlovel1 ^^

What tank do you currently have? Surely it would cost less to buy a new hood or just better lighting (im a big fan of DIY).
I dont think ive spent more than $50 on any of my entire set-ups (with exception of giant canister filer for my turtle).
Have you checked craigslist or similar? Just wondering why you need a whole new tank 9or do you have alterior motives :hey:
cheers

I'd say tank 2 as well.
I was trying to find you a link to a little tank which would be good for a betta, but I can't remember the name of it :X
It's just a little tank with a nice built in filter on the back and a light that hangs over the top. I was trying to persuade my mum to buy it for a beautiful plakat betta she saw, but she kept saying 'No, I don't have anywhere to put it' and 'I don't need anything else to take care of!'
If I remember the name of it I'll be sure to send you a link :good: I think they're only about £40. :)

lilfishie: It's a funky little tank XD

loraxchick: I've tried all sorts with the tank, and my OH and my dad tried to fix it on several occasions, but the tank is so poorly designed that you can't even take the lid off. It's a Superfish tank, but I think the model I have is out of date (I know the lighting system is anyway). So hence why I want to get this new one, and I'm leaning towards tank 2 purely because the light would be far easier to replace. I've checked eBay, GumTree and FreeCycle and there's nothing in my area in the way of second hand tanks. I don't have a car, so unfortunately I can't go further a field.

-FighterFishh: I wont be ordering the tank until Tuesday, so if you remember please let me know ^^

Thanks all!

XFiSh_CichildX: That's a good point :p Hadn't thought of that. It says in the description that it can be used as a cold water or tropical tank, so you can get a heater in there. I already have a small heater from the tank Tyr is in now, but I think I'll send them a message anyway just to double check.

It'd be a pretty daft design if you couldn't, so I'm sure there's a way to do it :p I've sent them a message, so I'll just have to wait and see.

The tank I have now is very similar to Tank 1, but the light is such a pain to fix/replace if it were to break. So I'm just being overally cautious (or paranoid )

ha mate i found this item on ebay for wee beta tanks but maybe ur tank is to big for it but prob get sumfin this idea but its a bit dear mate

Cheers for the link, but it only heats up to 12 litres, and Tank 2 is 25 litres.

I'm sure it'll fit a normal heater :)
