I am wanting to buy a larger tank than a 10 gallon, as a kid I had a 29 gallon--but I was wanting to either start with a 55, 75 or a little larger tank. I thought about getting 3 clown loaches for the tank so I was leaning on 75 gal or larger. I figure that it would cost me aprox. 500.00 for a good decent 75 gal setup, I'd appreciat any advise especially from those who have the larger tanks.

Well, brand new, I know its going to cost me $500 to set up my 55 gallon. So, depending on the prices in your area, I would think a 75 gallon would cost more then $500. Also depends on the quality of the equipment, the more you spend the longer it will last (most of the time). I think a 75 gallon is a great size, its always good to start with the biggest tank you can afford. A 125 gallon would be sweet, but would easily cost $1,000-$2000. What is your budget? What are you planning on stocking it with? (ex. new world cichlids, african cichlids, peaceful community, aggressive community, saltwater etc.)

--I would love to have at least 3 clown loaches with some other nice community fish to go along with it. I figure at least one pleco and an angle fish or so would be nice, I guess I'm looking more into 75 or higher for this type of setup. I do however know that I've seen large aquariums in the paper go for pretty cheap, however first come first serve.

i really wouldnt ever buy a tank brand new.

Samuk, you did well with those prices!
i thought i had done well buying a Juwel Rio 180 with stand for £66 (from ebay) and I sold the stand for £10.

Definitely, keep an eye on ebay some of the deals on there are riduculous. My cousin picked up a 55 gallon w/ stand, Hot magnum 250, two strip lights, heater, test kits, food, substrate, rocks, and wood for $100USD. Don't know where you are but I'm sure with some patience something will come along that's fits the bill.

On the other hand you can also save money by brushing up on your DIY skills.

hi,

i got my brand new aqua one windsor 66 (180litres) - i know a little smaller than what you are looking at - full set up, including canister filter, hood, heater, plants, gravel and decorations for £500 from my lfs. Made a deal with them that if they gave us the full "startup" for £500 we would have it - luckily they agreed. Its been running now for 6 months with no probs.
