Hi

Could someone please recommend a feeding 'system' for my plants?

The tank contains Vallis (straight), Ceratopteris thalictroides, Aponogeton crispus, Aponogeton ulvaceus, Rotala roundifolia and Crypt ciliata.

None of the plants are dieing or yellowing but they are also not growing as fast as I would like and lack vitality. I also have a problem with a dark green long filament hair algae which is not over running the tank but is annoying and unsightly particulary in the Rotala.

I perform weekly 30-40% water changes, Plus the tank is filtered by two large external filters I also have CO2. The problem I have is my tap water is very high in Nitrate and Phosphates so they have plenty of that to feed on (in abundance 80ppm Nitrate and 5ppm Phosphates), But I am sure they lack trace elements etc. I have been putting Nitrate and Phosphate free - iron tablets into the substraight beneath the roots.

There are so many supplments/fertilsers on the market I don't which to buy?

The tank is 2ft deep, 4ft long and 18inchs wide. The substrate in sliver sand and Ph is about 7.8, water is very hard (tap water again). The lighting is 2 x 36inch high intensity T8 tubes (which I plane to upgrade to either 150w metal halide or equal wattages T5's)

Please could recommend supplments or fertilsers to boost my plants?

For a decent trace mix get tropica plant nutrition (avoid the 'plus' version it contains N and P, neither of which it sounds like you need!), its generally regarded s the best on the market. If money is tight I've used the AE trace mix, although its not as comprehensive as TPN its still good.
