Not really; assassins will eat most other snails; even big apples. You'll just have to clean the algae yourself, but at least you won't have pest snails!

Assassins usually only go for snails that are smaller than them, but not always. So yes, you can put other snails in with them but don't expect any babies.

I personally wouldnt chance it.

Oh no! Difference of opinion!

I'll bow to Cezza's knowledge if she knows best ;)

I had heard that they usually only go for smaller snails, but I dont have any personal experience in the matter. As I said, usually, not always and probably not worth the risk.

No, I've never risked assassins with snails I actually want to keep either!

gutted. problem my assassins wont eat alge off my wood and if i get rid will have pest snails..

You pays your money and you takes your choice...

So wait a while. Wait until the assassins have eaten all the pest snails, and then rehome them, and add the algae eating snails.

well what if i leave them in till all the pest have gone. could i then rehome them in to my sumptank????

Why did you buy the assasins, to eat your other snails or for algae?
If you don't have any snails in the tank and you want a snail that will not breed at all, but eats algae, then get Nerite snails.

tbh, if you're having massive amounts of algae, snails aren't the answer, you need to get down to the root of the problem. Sure, snails can help, but they're not the solution.
