Qhite simply, which plants use up Phosphate and Nitrate the quickest, I'd like to try to get mine down, tap water is 5.0+ Phosphate so water changes dont really help, RO is not available for me, so I want ot do it with plants.

any fast growing plant. ie: Elodia, Ambulia, Hygrophilla polysperma, and most floating plants like Duckweed and Water Sprite. Water Hyacinth is one of the best plants for absorbing nutrients followed by Azolla and Salvinia.

why are high phosphates a problem for you? Just plant up and they will be consumed. If you are unplanted get a phosphate remover/filter/resin etc.

I would say I have about a 60% coverage, plants are nice and healthy but I have patches of BGA.

Nitrate is around 60-80

Phsphate around 4-5

DIY C02

PMDD

Seachem Excel daily

So I thought if I can use up the phosphate, I can then set about reducing my Nitrate a little,

Lights are 3x30 w tubes.

4hrs on 2 off 4 on

Any ideas

You don't say what size tank you have but I am assuming the lights are 30" T5s??? and therefore a 125Ltr tank?

90W is a lot of light if using T5 and your CO2 is no good as DIY.

You are dosing PMDD (I guess with no phosphate in it) therefore you are adding nitrates already.

Generally in a tank with a decent plantmass like yours it means that another nutrient is defficient which then leads to the plant being unable to take up the others which then results in the build up.

It could be that you are carbon defficient due to using DIY and therefore the plants can't uptake the remaining nitrate and phosphate meaning that they are building up.

Tank size, filter lph and light type will probably be the key to solving your problem here. My money is still on the CO2 though now I know you have a lot of light and are using DIY.
