Which Plants? Help Please

ive got two tanks but even though have great success with my fish its a completly different matter with my plants, ive added plant food that is liquid form and also used plant food that you add to the sand/gravel but they all just seem to die apart from one particular kind (dont ask me what it is i aint got a clue) the thing i want to know is
what plants are easy to grow
any special water requirements
which ones are more prone to being demolished by my fish
any great tips

also im on the look out for some floating plants but i cant find any in my LFS, anyone got some names so i can google it and find out where i can get some from

the best advice i can give is find out the pH of your water and if its acidic, under pH7, get bunches of cabomba, and if its alkaline, over pH7 get bunches of elodea. ive got two types of floating plants, Pistia stratiotes and Salvinia natans
