I am planning to have a 11 gallon tank (18 x 12 x 12) with just 1 male Betta. Now since Bettas don't like filter, I plan to have around 8 plants so that the plants can act as a filter. But the issue is Betta tanks should ideally not have light, so my tank would be without light. The tank would get about 2 hours of sunlight. I don't plan to add CO2. Which are the fast growing plants which can grow without much light and additional CO2 ?

Bettas don't like a lot of water movement, they're fine with filters so long as they don't blow the poor thing around. I would just get a cheap air-driven sponge filter as that won't make a strong current. And why wouldn't a light be good either? I think you're a little misinformed here.

Not many plants would do well with that little light, and they certainly wouldn't grow fast. You could try java moss or java fern, maybe Anubias. Duckweed?

If you do get a light, then you have a lot more options.

Bettas don't like filters? Bettas don't like light? They also say Bettas are not good community fish

Noone told this guy I used to own. Here you can see him right at the top directly in the flow of the spraybar, very close to the surface and therefore close to the lights and he is socialising with the 2 female Mollies.

Looks like he's flaring to me. I wouldn't call that socializing.

But ye i would say bettes NEED a filter, as i think its better for the fish. An air filter would be the best option, or even a hangon filter.
Java moss, elodea, anubis, duckweed. Not much as far as options go, but if you had a light your tank would look alot nicer, and your plant options would be far greater.

'just realised i basically said what tyler said' :look:

He is flaring. If you look closely he is flaring at the male mollie. The 2 females they are 'arguing' over are the one at the rear and the one on the right.

He's not flaring here. You'll notice the male is below. It is the large female he is with here but again is at the surface, near the lights and in the filter output.
