Visitherm heaters are really good...there's an indicator to tell you when it kicks in and the temp is variable. They do a range of heaters between 25-300 watts.

There's a table here to give you an indication of the wattage required.

If your running an external filter then a Hydor external heater would be a good choice.

I got mine a couple of weeks back and have been very happy with it so far.
