Morning all, Im setting up a 3ft planted tank which is going to house 1x red tail black shark. If I were to get some gouramis which ones and how many.

You might need a larger tank for the shark. But they're semi aggressive, so three spot gourami are semi aggressive and grow up to around the same size as the shark (though some sharks can get up to 9"). You could probably get a pair, but they're extremely aggressive with other gourami so even with the shark I'd get a TON of plants. It works out pretty well since the shark is a bottom dweller while gourami are top swimmers.

Thanks dreamertk, I bought the new tank for the shark after some research so I thought 3ft 200 litre was fine. I was looking at compatible fish and rainbows and gouramis seem to be the way forward. The tank is going to be planted co2 injection so number of plants aren't an issue. Apart from the shark I only want 1 more species so 2 gouramis and a shark that hides all the time would seem a little bare. I've done quite a bit of research on rainbows but not gouramis. I take it there not schooling fish then

Some gourami's are less aggressive and will tolerate each other better, but that's probably not what you want around an aggressive fish that will hassle them to death especially when they'll be much smaller than the shark.

Red Tailed Sharks need a 4ft tank minimum. I was told this when I asked about getting one for my 3ft. As for gourami's, you could have any of the below;
Pearl
Threespot
Golden
Opaline

And there's possibly more but I only know of those that will stick up for themselves if the shark turns nasty, luckily the RTS usually only turn nasty to other shark or catfish species.
