Hi, I'm thinking of adding 2-4 small gourami's to my 29g tank which currently has a group of danios.

I'm deciding between pearl, honey and dwarf. IMO Pearl looks the prettiest, but I would want to go for one that is the hardiest since I am a beginner!

Are Pearls the hardiest? Also, if I do decide to get 4 gourami's, is it better to get 4 pearls or 2 pearls and 2 honeys? Is there any particular ratio (male to female) that I should get so that they wont fight and feel comfortable?

Thanks for reading! :)

Hi,

Which ever you decide on you should buy a male and 2 females to even out aggression. What fish do you currently have in your tank just danios? Remember pearls grow 3 times the size of honeys and dwarfs so you may be better going for the smaller ones. Don't mix different species as it generally doesn't work out. Have you looked in the gourami section at the pinned topics.

Hi Emma, thanks for the advice.

Wow, I didnt know pearls grow 3 times bigger than honeys and dwarfs! I current have 2 platties and 1 neon with the danios so I probably need to add more neons to the tank once I am confident the tank is ready for them (I recently completed cycling the tank) Hopefully there will be enough space for the pearls.

After your advice, I think I'll get 2 female and 1 male pearls, if the 29g tank isnt big enough for them, I am more than happy to move them to a bigger 70g tank later on (which I plan to get soon).

I have checked the info on the fish index, do you mean this page? http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showforum=39

Don't think it mentioned the fact that the pearls grew 3 times the size of honeys and dwarfs, I actually thought dwarfs grew the most!

Finally, would pearls be comfortable with the danios since they are so active?

Cheers :)

Hi,

This is the topic i was thinking of http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=54992 dwarfs and honeys generally grow to 2 inches pearls have been known to grow 6 inches. If you google for sexing pearl gourami you should get lots of pictures showing the difference. I haven't kept danios so can't answer that question. A great person to pm about gourami's is Sylvia, shes the gourami expert :D

Emma :)
