In my tank, i have 3 guppies and 5 neons... and they have currently been treated for white spot.. so dont plan to get anymore fish until i know everything is safe again etc..
But i had a common Plec, but he died.. i was advised that a BN would be a good fish to have :)
but i want a nice colourfull tank, so which other fish would live happily together?
mum has had lots of fish in her days... but this is my first tank :) so any advice is welcomed!

Can you tell us the size of the tank, litres and dimensions, it helps to advise on which fish would be appropriate :)

60l...so thats about 16 gallons if im working that out right :S

Personally i would up the neons to create a bigger shoal and then get some kind of bottom feeder such as pygmy cories or khuli loaches, both of which wont add to much to your bioload. Or you could add different tetras to add some variety.

Is there any type of fish you particulally like?

Cheers for the advice :D I do like neons, so could get a few more..
We like mini sharks, guppies, neons and thats all we have had really... oh we had angel fish as well and siamese fighters.. but we wouldnt have them again...
like i said, i want a colourfull tank and i dont mind if the fish are not what ive had before.

The rule tends to be 1 inch per gallon of water you have, although there are exceptions to this as some fish produce less waste than others. This will also depend on the filtration of your tank as to how many fish you can have.

The shark stay well away from, they are highly agressive and grow far too big for your tank, i made that mistake once and ended up with alot of dead fish.

I would go for something like a honey gourami if you want a center piece fish, nice to look at and do well in smaller tanks. However i would suggest you to stay away from the similar 'dwarf gourami' which is not very good for beginners due to it being prone to bactierial infections.

My favourites happen to be the x-ray tetra, hardy, interesting nd fun to watch although you will need to see if you can stock them safely.

hiyaa,

i supose our stock will be simular, as i have a 48ltr tank...im wanting to upgrade to a 60ltr soon, probably after easter or for my birthday in august! :) so this might give you some ideas of what you could have in and some of your options. at the mo i have:

. 9 neon tetras, (i love them too)
. 4 ottos (they are like small sucker fish, but more practical for smaller tanks.)

but im getting a little bored already...(iv only had my current stock for about 2 months!) and im thinking of getting:

. 6 honey and red honey gouramis (the ratio is 1 male gourami : 2 female gouramis, so im having 2 males : 4 females, so they dont bicker!)
. and either 5-8 pygmy corys:if i can find any near me! or 5-8 ottos (probably 8 so i can see some of them, as they now always hide under my peice of bogwood, so nobody sees them grr...i might be mean and burry it in the sand so they cant hide under and show there faces! hehe)

if you take any interest on any of the above (or any more feel free to email me or whatever and i should try and find you some facts about them lol. and some pics, if i can get em on lol)

what things do you have in your tank like, sand or gravel, caves bogwood ect. i have sand, fake and live plants and bogwood... thats about it really...

i just wondered if you could tell me how much AROUND abouts your tank was, and where abouts you got it from...if you dont mind...dont bother if you dont want to, i just want to find where i can get the best deals from really..i hope you dont mind :)

my mum wont let me get a bigger tank, but if i 60ltr fits on my shelf, (wich iv measured and the one im lucking at does! woo!) then i might be able to persuade her and get it. just i need to save up a bit more if i want the fish and the decorations, whatever you want to call them...(coming to think about it, i may ask my dad for it for my bday lol, he'll probs get it me! hehe)

thanks, sorry for the long thread, hope it helped x
