i need to add more fish to my tank but i want some small yet colourful fish to spice it up

i think it is a 50 - 60 gallon tank. i have a external filter.
i already have some fish so they would need to be compatable the fish i have are :

4 angelfish
1 opeline gourami
3 bala sharks
2 swordtails
2 guppies
2 garnet pretty tetra
5 neons but i am going to boost the number to 15
5 glowlight tetra
1 siamese fighter
1 common/sailfin pleco (not sure what it is)
1 golden algae eater

any help would be nice thanks

Wow, it sounds like you have a lot of fish in that tank?!?!

From personal experience, if you are going to add 10 more Neon’s then I wouldn't put very many more fish in. A lot of small fish are schooling fish so then you would also have to get more than say 2-3. But, if you are going for more fish I really like Rasboras; there are quite a few beautiful varieties to.

Don't let the online picture fool you they are much prettier in real life. They are pretty docile fish; they like to bunch together and are just mischievous enough to ward of fish like Angel fish or Tiger Barbs. Good luck!

Add more fish? You need to rehome some, as when they are adults, if they get that far that tank will be way overstocked. You also have some compatability issues to work out.

Size wise, the balas get to around 14", maybe a little more. They plec will grow to be a foot at least, and probably more. That tank is in no way large enough to house those fish at their adult size. The angels will need 10 gallons each as adults, the gourami is no small fish as an adult either.

Compatability; neons are the natural food of angels in the wild, don't be surprised if they start to disappear. The angels will also start to develp a pecking order, that the betta, looking like another angel to the angels, won't understand. Expect the betta to get some really shredded fins, the same goes for the gourami for the same reasons. Livebearers are best kept with a ratio of 1 male to 2 females.

Well, the above post is right. You will be overstocked once those fish grow larger and have some incompatibilities there as well. The bala sharks and angel fish will grow quite large and probably eat all your neons and tetras so you shouldn't add anymore neons. As for the pleco, it will probably grow the largest out of all your fish and needs alot whole lot of space.

Not only that, your golden algae eater is a fancy colour of the chinese algae eater. It will grow to about 4-6 inches long and get really agressive when its older. It will likely kill your smaller fishes as well as attach themselves on to your larger fish such as your angels and eat their slime coating. It may also damage their scales or wound it!!

Overall your small fishes will get bullied by the larger fish. The golden algae eater will bully everyone. In the end, I think your pleco and golden algae eater will dominate most of the tank.

I'm not trying to be too fussy or anything, but you might want to do more research before you buy your fishes.

soz i think ive messed up the volume of water all i know is it is a 4ft tank bowfront its quite tall and rather wide soz about that

Hi big-george91 :)

You're certainly not the first to overstock a tank with inappropriate fish. Many of us have started out this way and came to the forum for advice.

The question now is how to go about remedying your situation and making some more suitable choices. But let's get the basics out of the way first. If you can measure your tank someone will be able to tell you how much water it will hold. That's essential.

I've moved your thread out of the Newbie section and into Tropical Chat. It will be seen by more members and you will probably get more responses here too.
