Wow a LFS wont take a fish for free ???? that makes no sense most lfs would be happy to pay you what they pay their distributer they must be a bigger lfs mine is more of a family run that is like very friendly and cares more about quality than quantity

I like Option 2. These are my reasons;
1. You already have the Discus, and is easy to add more to the mix
2. Tiger Barbs are little buggers, they have attacked everything in my tank and I
had to rid of him, even with a RTS.

Really like Option #3, I would go with that if you REALLY don't want to keep the Discus. But something must have attrached you to them.
Not going to go with any clown loaches?

Alright, alright. I'll keep the discus, you talked me into it. I love it too much to let it go anyway. :wub: Either way, it does not seem to pine for the company of others. the last discus I had probably died as a combination of stress from being chased by this one and other factors. So I don't really need any more at the mo. If the need arises, I may get some more WHEN MY TANK IS MATURE. :p The clown loach, I am really actually considering taking back to petco, and I feel horrible about it. That is where I got him, but he had a really bad case of ich and I have cured him since. I'm kinda attached to him as well. I really don't know what to do at this point... on the one hand, I love all my fish and don't want to let them go. On the other hand, I know they would like some company and I'm to scared to buy more; I have been traumatized by the menagerie of fish deaths I've been having lately. Nooo... what a dilemma. :crazy:

Willywonka, actually my LFS is mom & pop store too. I suppose the reason they don't take back fish is cause they don't want any diseases being introduced. Gaya, I am in the san francisco bay area.

As for what I should do... maybe I should just wait a week for things to coocl down and if everything is fine (no sign of disease etc) then I could continue adding fish (starting with the gouramis). What do you think?

Do you think it would be wise to transfer my guppies to my main tank and use the 5 gallon as a quarantien tank for the gouramis when I get them? Also how long should I quarantine for?

BTW I can see this is a very decisive poll :p It's an even 50-50.

I voted option 1, and it is a very _biased_ opinion of mine... ;)

I wanted to build a tank around tiger barbs a while ago, and I couldn't find enough of other species that were compatible with them to make it worth while so I gave up.

Just to give you some idea, I even thought about adding them into my mbuna tank! Although this may have appeared to work in the short term for those few who actually tried, mbuna will kill them eventually when they become larger, so I'm not going to do this...

I still like tiger barbs, Rainbow sharks, and clown loaches which I believe are all compatible... Oh well, perhaps few years from now... ;)

They are indeed compatible, and believe me I'd do it if I didn't have a discus on my hands and if my experiences with clown loaches hadn't been so bad (damn you, petco, for supplying my with ich-infested clowns! May you burn forever in that rat-infested hellhole you call a petshop!) :p I'm joking of course, but they really shoudl take better care of their fish.

I guess I'm keeping everything then. :D Look to my sig for what else I want to add and if there's a problem just say so.

Looks great :thumbs: Good luck, you're going to love the angelfish and cories ;)
