HI, i am using my bf's sign in name, he had 2 tanks and bought another 2 today and has given me one of them, i have some guppies that i chose to have in one of his tanks and he has given them to me along with a tank (14 galloon) , heater, filter and air pump. I would like to get some more fish to go with my guppies but am not sure which. could anyone give me some advice? which fish live best in a tank with guppies? i did have some zebra danio's with them but seperated them because they were biting them and ramming into them all the time. (the guppies) any help would be appreciated! :fish:

Most 'community' fish would work with guppies. The main thing to look out for is you do not want fin nippers.

Any idea of any types of fish that you like? Then you can get advice on whether they can go with guppies.

Some fish to look into though could be:
(I'm suggesting these fish as ideas...I don't know how many guppies you have, but in a 14 gallon tank you're looking at approximately 14 inches of fully grown fish)

Dwarf Gouramis
Honey Gouramis
Corydoras (there are smaller cories than others...pygmy, panda - pandas are quite sensitive to water conditions and grow to 1.5 inches, metae are a nice panda equivalent and a bit more hardy in my experience and they grow to 2 inches. Corys should be kept in groups)
Tetras - some can be a bit nippy, kept in groups...there are tonnes of different tetras and some grow bigger than others.

Ok, thanks for the info I have got 5 guppies, i have had a look at some of your suggestions and found a few that i think would be suitable for my tank and that i also like they are

black neon tetra
adolfo's cory (not sure about this one)
glowlight tetra
rummy nose tetra
dwarf gourami (i like the neon blue ones)
cherry barb
pentazona barb
dwarf pencilfish

would any of these be unsuitable or not right to put in with my guppies i have done a bit of research on them all and they are all communtiy fish grow to around 2 inches and are not aggressive.

Yes, I would say one male dwarf gourami and 3 cories would be slightly over stocked. But Cories are bottom dwellers so they dont generally share the same space, so it might be OK. Just keep on top of water changes and an eye on your nitrate levels.

Is this the cory? http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/gadolph.html If you can get hold of Metae, they grow slightly smaller (5 cm) and are similar in pattern.

With 5 guppies you wouldn't be able to get a decent shoal of tetras.

Lots of people like cherry barbs, but I personally had some bad experiences when I rehomed a couple for a friend, they terrorised all my other fish, but maybe it was because I had only 2? I don't know.
