Well you got to narrow that down. What type of community? You could have a good community of cichlids. I've got a community of semi-agressive.

You could have average fish (tetras, livebearers, blah blah blah  )

A cichlid community (Africans, new worlds, central americans, dwarves)

Oddball community (Badis badis, small gobies,| large gobies, knife fish, bichirs, butterfly fish)

Or you could have a mix of some of those, or others :)

Well being a beginner, in the beginner forum, I dont know what type of communities there are; thus the topic. Thanks Dwarf, for educating a newb with that informative answer.

And now that I'm informed I'm leaning toward the cichlid tank (which i was already).
Feel free to throw out any other ideas u might have for a community tank. :D

chill out BigFishSmallPond,

I dont think anyone is trying to upset you.

Asking questions is the most valuable thing you can do however long you have kept fish or anything else for that matter.

What you have got to remember is that Community tank basically means a community of fish that will live together. Or what fish come from a certain location.

Cichlid communities can be good as long as you dont get species that require large teratories.

I wasnt upset. Just thought I'd make a point that sometimes the way people answer things can seem patronizing. These feelings could be avoided by answering the topic as best as possible without talking down to the beginner as this type of thing could scare away the timid fishkeeper ;) So I guess ill finish by posing the same suggestio... "chill out"

I agree exactly, written responces are different to chatting as characters are easily understood in a conversation.

You will find there will be always someone talking down to you when it comes to fish keeping knowledge, or at least thats what i have found. I think the thing to remember is that those who claim to know all normally know nothing. I personally find that you can easily listen to people to gain knowledge but sometimes you find you have to cast your own opinions to attain results.

Just curious what combos of fish make for good community fish?

For years I thought community fish were just things like platties, guppies, tetras, rasboras, barbs, dwarf cichlids, gouramis. We all have to start some where. It is just a shame some forget this.

As for chilling out....... I already am. :kana:

Calm down man, just because you are in the Beginners forum doesn't really mean you are in fact a beginner, it should, but it doesn't. Heck I'm in here, mainly just trying to answer questions though. I just wanted to know what type of community you would like. Sorry if I offended you. :dunno:

And I'm sorry if you mistook me for NOT calm. But much like ya cant tell me if I'm calm or not, ya cant tell me im not a beginner. So wether YOU are or not doesnt mean you should ASSUME everyone in the beginner forum is NOT a beginner. Also you shouldnt assume just because someone doesnt agree with YOUR point that they are angry, or need to calm down. My point still remains. =] It's not as though you couldnt have said something more along the lines of: "There are many communities such as blank, blank, and blank. Please try to narrow it down to such and such parameters" or something of the like. Dwarf was able to answer the thread without additional information! Anyway I will not beat this dead horse further,

I didnt find him angry but ok. With the fish you have in your 25 gallon you have to go cichlid community, in particular african. As for your ten gallon you could get any noce fish that doesnt get huge or even 3 inches.
