Hi

I've been on the Yorkshire water website and my water is moderately hard/hard at 11 °dH (78.4mg/l Calcium or 196 mg/l Calcium carbonate). Also Nitrate level is 14ppm.
I have a 5'x2'x18" tank that I'm going to set up and want to only choose fish which are well adapted to my water without trying to soften it.
Can people please make some suggestions?

Thanks

Rift valley cichlids?

I had exactly the same issues - we ended up with Tigers (normal + Green) and dwarf chain loach and Kribs. We just added the loaches to the tank (with the 16 tigers in residence) and they have been sooooo funny and interesting - quite the kings of the tank at the moment (and spending very little time on the bottom). It'll be interesting to see what happens when we introduce the Kribs :)

If you want a longer list of fish have a look at my other thread where I ran through the options + someone gave a brilliant article on hard water fish from which we chose our long list :)

In the end I'm very pleased that life caused us to move away from the guppies etc as the chaps in the tank now are brilliantly entertaining :)

What is the hardness of your water?

Any more ideas? I'm thinking livebearers might be the one for me, I'd like something that really thrives and breeds in my water.
