I am looking into getting some larger species of cichlid for my 55 gallon. I would like to know which one you would all choose. I would like a fish with a personality. I know the Sevrums get large and probably to large for a 55 gallon. I would like to have about 4 of these fish in this tank, just to keep the aggression down in the tank.
From what I have read the Terror is easier to sex at a young age, and that the Dempseys are tough. Any info will help on this subject matter. Thanks

you do know all of those are american cichlids so should be in the new world cichlids section btw.

i voted eletric blue jack Dempseys

:good:

I voted Severum

Because they grow bigger than the other fish you mentioned plus if you got your self a gold or red severum you would have some real nice looking fish on your hands.

My second choice would have been the Electric blue dempsey because of there vibrent blue colouration but on the flip side of the coin they are very slow growing fish ...

foreget the mentioned, go for a jaguar cichlid, attitude aint the word, and you're goin to need a bigger tank!!!! :hyper:

why are you even posting here? this is the AFRICAN section, if you were to poll us about frontosa, emperors and the like I could understand but I'd bet you'd get wayy more responses in the NEW WORLD area.

PS. NONE of those belong in a 55

the fish you have put will outgrow a 55 gallon tank in no time at all, most of the american cichlids grow too large for your average tank, hence why you need a bigger tank.

I am not getting a new tank that is why I put the fish I put.

I'm not surprised in this, you already have a GSP in a tiny 30 gallon that probably isnt near brack enough.

I wish you'd research the fish before buying them more, you're attempting to by just postinghere but buying a few books, checking the library would be even better.

fish arent like the bubble gum at the check out, (instant purchase items) they take special care and appreciation.

good luck to you...and your fish.....
